What is an Eco School ?

Eco Schools is an international programme that provides a structured approach to environmental education.

There are nine topics which are used for the Environmental Review and linking the programme into the curriculum.

The Eco Schools topics are:

  • Litter
  • Waste minimisation
  • Energy
  • Water
  • Transport
  • Healthy Living
  • School grounds
  • Biodiversity
  • Global perspective

The Eco School Action Team work together with the Healthy Schools Working Group and our School Council. Our Action Plan, which is monitored and evaluated and linked to the curriculum, involves the whole school and the wider community. We also have an Eco-Code to help everyone remember our commitment to being an Eco School.

Callis Grange achieved the Eco School “Green Flag” status in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2019 and again in 2021.

This prestigious award will be reassessed and hopefully re-accredited every 2 years.

Our Eco Code

The pupils of Callis Grange have created their own Eco Code to help remind everyone in the school to help save our planet.

Every class has Eco Monitors who take responsibility for ensuring the lights are turned off when the class leaves the classroom and that the recycling bins are used.

Have a look at the Eco code below:
