Safeguarding

Callis Grange recognises its statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children. All members of our community (staff, volunteers, governors, leaders, parents/carers, wider family networks, and pupils/students) have an important role in safeguarding children and all have an essential role to play in making our community safe and secure.

Callis Grange believes that the best interests of children always come first. All children have a right to be heard and all children regardless of age, sex (gender), ability, culture, race, language, religion or sexual identity or orientation, have equal rights to protection.

Staff working with children at Callis Grange will maintain an attitude of ‘it could happen here’ where safeguarding is concerned. When concerned about the welfare of a child, staff will always act in the best interests of the child and if any member of our community has a safeguarding concern about any child or adult, they should act and act immediately by reporting their concerns to the school.

You can find more information about safeguarding in our Child Protection Policy.

DSLs

There are currently 4 members of staff who are fully trained as Designated Safeguarding Leads. These are: Mrs Palmer-Simpson (Headteacher and DSL), Mrs Cowell-Young (Deputy Headteacher and DDSL), Miss Shuttle (SENCo and DDSL) and Mrs Jamieson (Year Group Leader and DDSL).

Safeguarding within the Curriculum

Children at Callis Grange are taught about safeguarding in a child friendly manner through our carefully planned RSE and PSHE Curriculum, our Computing Curriculum (via Online Safety) and through daily interactions with staff who work hard to weave safeguarding into class discussions, assemblies and everyday interactions.
